The Germicidal Effect of Commercial Disinfectants

Abstract
For the purpose of investigating the germicidal effect of commercial dinisfectants, the author purchased 4 species at he drug-stores. The germicidal effect of commercial disinfectants and a mixture to the bacteria of Staphylococcus aureus, Salmonella typhimurium and Escherichia coli were investigated at the experimental conditions of different dilution time and contact period.
The results of observation might be summarized as follows:
1. In the Sodium hypochlorite A, after 30minutes of contact to the 5,000 times (Res. Cl: 2.44ppm) diluted solition, it appeared to have caused the loss of viability of all the Bacteria.
2. In the Sodium hypochlorite B after 30minutes of contact to the 2,000 times (Res. Cl: 2.88ppm) diluted solution, it appeared to have caused the loss of viability of all the Bacteria.
3. Under the experimental conditions employed, Synthetic Detergent did not show any germicidal effect.
4. In the Commercial detergent-disinfectant mixture, after 20 minutes of contact to the 100 times diluted solution, it appeared to have cause the loss of viability of all the Bacteria.
5. In the mixture of Sodium hypochlorite A and 500 times diluted Synthetic Detergent, after 30 minuates of contact to the 20,000 times diluted solution, it appeared to have caused the loss of viability of all the Bacteria.
